2026 New Mexico Beaver Survey

Overview

The purpose of this project is to develop and test a New Mexico Beaver Resource and Activity Survey (BRAS), similar to what has been developed for partners in the Pacific Northwest. We will also provide training to New Mexico Department of Game and Fish (NMDGF) staff and partners on using the form. This initiative will also support the effort to integrate field data collection with the Beaver Activity protocol in QRiS. Specifically, we will develop/document pathways to ingest field data from the Survey123 app into QRiS data capture events. We will then expand on the existing protocol by specifying metrics to calculate (e.g., observed dam/sign density, fraction of dam capacity realized, etc.)
