Based on a massive data lakehouse

Behind the scenes we have a Data Lakehouse built on AWS Athena that allows for storing and querying vast amounts of data.

A core element of the data catalog is an up-to-date 'scrape' of tens of thousands of individual projects from the 2025 conterminous United States model run that includes metrics for over 54,000,000 riverscapes segments.

We also query data from REST and GraphQL endpoints such as US government GIS hubs (EPA Attains, National Inventory of Dams, etc.), Climate Engine, and Riverscapes PBR Explorer.

Custom Parameters

Depending the report type, users have different parameters they can choose when running a report. These typically include the ability to the following

Area of Interest

Choose which geographic area the report will be based on. We have several separate tools/modalities to make this easy for you:

  1. Choose from a predefined area. We have many standard administrative and hydrographic boundary files already loaded, including US States, BLM Field and District Offices, and watersheds at the HUC2 to HUC12 level.
  2. Pick a segment of river and DGOs upstream or downstream of it
  3. Upload your own GIS layer
  4. Draw a polygon on a web map

Units of Measure

All metrics have units of measure defined and reports can be rendered in either metric (SI) or US customary (imperial) units.
